Introduction
Inkly ("we," "our," or "the Platform") is operated by Nova Page Publishing Ltd., a company registered in British Columbia, Canada. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in compliance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use myinkly.com and its related services (collectively, the "Platform").
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Readers: name, email address, profile avatar, and login credentials (including via Google Sign-In).
- Authors: pen name, email address, profile avatar, and Stripe Connect account details for payouts.
Payment Information
All payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or other sensitive financial data on our servers. When you make a purchase, your payment information is transmitted directly to Stripe under their privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance standards. We receive only a transaction confirmation, the last four digits of your card, and the card type from Stripe.
Usage Data
- Reading progress and bookmarks.
- Purchase history and bookshelf data (including bundle credits and unlocked titles).
Community Content
Comments, posts, articles, and other content you voluntarily submit to the Platform. This content may be visible to other users depending on where it is posted.
Technical Data
- IP address, browser type and version, device type and operating system.
- Referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see "Cookies" section below).
Analytics Data
We collect anonymous, aggregated usage patterns through cookies and analytics tools to understand how visitors interact with the Platform and to improve our services.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Platform and your account.
- To process purchases, bundle unlocks, and author payouts.
- To send transactional emails, including purchase confirmations, payout notices, login verification, and account-related notifications.
- To improve the Platform, personalize your experience, and develop new features.
- To monitor and enforce our Terms of Service and Content Policy.
- To respond to your inquiries, support requests, and feedback.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect against fraud or abuse.
We do not sell your personal information. We will never sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties for their marketing purposes.
Information Sharing
We share personal information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Stripe: When you make a purchase or receive a payout, your payment data is processed by Stripe, Inc. under their privacy policy and PCI-DSS standards.
- Google: If you choose to sign in using Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google in accordance with their privacy policy.
- Advertising Partners: Third-party ad networks (such as Google AdSense) may use cookies to display ads based on your interests. See the "Cookies" section below.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
We do not sell or rent your personal data to any third party.
Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Essential Cookies: Required for session management, authentication, and core Platform functionality. These cannot be disabled without affecting your ability to use the Platform.
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how visitors use the Platform, which pages are most popular, and how we can improve the user experience. These collect anonymous, aggregated data.

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling essential cookies may affect your ability to log in and use certain features of the Platform.
Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account at any time.
- Purchase Records: Retained for seven (7) years after the transaction date, as required for tax, accounting, and legal compliance purposes.
- Community Content: Retained while it remains posted on the Platform. You may delete your own content at any time, and we will remove it upon request.
- Technical and Analytics Data: Retained in aggregated, anonymized form and not linked to your identity after your account is deleted.
Upon account deletion, your personal data will be removed from our active systems within thirty (30) days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., purchase records for tax purposes). Anonymized and aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.
Your Rights Under PIPEDA
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy of it.
- Correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Delete your account and request the removal of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Withdraw Consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information. Please note that withdrawing consent may affect your ability to use certain features of the Platform.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@myinkly.com. We will respond to your request within thirty (30) days, as required by PIPEDA.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:
- HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your device and our servers.
- Secure authentication mechanisms, including encrypted password storage and OAuth-based login.
- Stripe PCI-DSS compliance for all payment processing — credit card data never touches our servers.
- Regular review of our data collection, storage, and processing practices.
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to implementing industry-standard safeguards.
Children's Privacy
The Platform is not directed at children under the age of thirteen (13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as promptly as possible. International Data Transfers
Your personal information may be stored and processed in Canada and the United States through our cloud service providers (including Vercel and Supabase). By using the Platform from outside Canada, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer of your personal information to Canada and/or the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
We take steps to ensure that your information receives an adequate level of protection in the jurisdictions in which we process it, consistent with the requirements of PIPEDA.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If we make material changes that significantly affect how we handle your personal information, we will notify you by email (if you have an account) or by posting a prominent notice on the Platform prior to the changes taking effect.
Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
